Notary Public Signed Documents
Type of service: Premium Apostille Service - 1 day
Description
A Notary Public signed document is any document that has been officially verified and signed (and stamped/sealed) by a Notary Public — a person authorised by the state to witness signatures, confirm identities, and administer oaths.
What It Means in Practice
When a document is notarised, the notary’s role is to:
-
Verify identity of the person signing (usually by checking a passport or ID).
-
Witness the signing — or, in some cases, confirm that the signature was made previously but genuinely by that person.
-
Add a notarial certificate — a statement explaining what the notary did (e.g., “Signed before me on this date”).
-
Apply their official seal/stamp and signature.
Examples of Notary Public signed documents
-
Power of Attorney
-
Affidavits and statutory declarations
-
Consent letters for children travelling abroad
-
Property sale documents
-
Certified copies of passports or academic certificates
Why It Matters
A Notary Public signed document carries legal weight both domestically and internationally because it proves:
-
The signature is authentic
-
The person had the authority to sign
-
The date of signing is recorded
-
The notary followed legal procedures
When the solicitor or notary public signs the document, they must:
- Have a valid practising certificate
- SIgn the document in the UK
- Use their personal signature, not a company signature
- Print their name and company address
- Include their seal (if applicable), if an embossed seal is used, the embossment must go through the document and be present on both sides of the page.
- Include the date of certification
- State the action they have taken eg witnessed, certified a copy, confirmed as original
