Project Auditing

A project audit seeks to answer the same set of questions as a code audit. The main difference is the scope of a project audit is wider. The project audit assesses the overall health of the project rather than just the source code. While a code audit can be accomplished through inspection of the code base alone, a project audit involves working directly with the development team for a short period.

Through a project audit a number of assessments can be made:

• how productively is the development team working?
• does the development team have the right tools in place for the needs of the project, and are these being used productively
• is the development and build environment suitable for productive development?
• is communication between team members adequate and is information being shared properly?
• >are defects and enhancements being tracked effectively?

As with the code audit, the deliverable for the project audit includes recommendations on how any areas of concern can be addressed.
